Welcome to my corner of the mortgage world...

Not your Mama's Lender

I’m Ashley Owens—the actual human behind Not Your Mama’s Lender.

I’m a mortgage lender, finance nerd, problem solver, and firm believer that getting a home loan shouldn’t require you to blindly trust someone throwing acronyms and numbers at you.

My career has been built around lending and finance, but what I really love is strategy—figuring out how all the pieces of someone’s financial picture fit together and finding the path that makes the most sense for them. Sometimes that path is simple. Sometimes it requires a little creativity. Either way, I want you to understand exactly what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.

Not Your Mama’s Lender came from that philosophy. It’s not about doing mortgages differently just for the sake of being different. It’s about making lending more understandable, more personal, and a whole lot less intimidating.

And yes, there’s a lot of pink involved.

But... Who Am I, Really?

I’m a wife, a mom, a mortgage lender, and the operating COO of my husband’s remodeling business—which means on any given day, I may go from talking mortgage strategy to reviewing a construction estimate, answering a client question, or figuring out what we’re having for dinner.

My life is full. It’s busy. And it definitely isn’t perfectly curated.

I know what it looks like to be a normal person with big goals who doesn’t necessarily have every piece figured out yet. I know that sometimes the plan changes. Sometimes life gets expensive. Sometimes the thing that made perfect financial sense five years ago doesn’t make sense anymore. And sometimes you know where you want to go—you just have absolutely no idea how you’re going to get there.

That perspective matters to me as a lender.

Because when you sit down with me, I’m not looking at you as a credit score, a debt-to-income ratio, or a file that needs to get through underwriting. There’s a real life attached to those numbers. There are kids and careers and businesses and divorces and marriages and plans that changed and mistakes you wish you hadn’t made and dreams you’re still trying to figure out how to afford.

I get that.

I don't expect perfection from the people I work with. I want honesty. Give me the real picture- the good, the messy, the "please don't judge me for this"  parts- and then let's figure out what we can do with it.

Things I'm passionate about...

My Family.

They are at the center of everything I do. Being a wife and a mom has shaped the way I think about home, money, security, and what we're really working so hard to build in the first place.

Building things- literally and figuratively.

Between our remodeling business and my inability to leave well enough alone when I decide a room needs to be changed, I genuinely love taking something with potential and figuring out how to make it better.

Financial Literacy without the shame.

You shouldn't need a degree in finance to understand your own money. I am committed to helping people understand credit, lending, debt, and homeownership without making them feel embarrassed for what they don't already know.

Helping people find the path forward.

GIve me a complicated situation and I'm probably going to want to solve it. I love the borrowers who don't fit perfectly into a little box just as much as the straightforward ones- because sometimes the answer isn't a no.  It's a not yet, or not this way

So, yeah. I'm your lender.

But I'm a whole lot of other things, too.

And I think that's kind of the point.
